My Will rand his first ever 5k race today! I’m so very proud of him! He took up running last September and has been heading out 5-6 days per week, every week He ran with his company as part of a team – they were all there to cheer him on as he finished! I like the team atmosphere

So I started my new job today It’s going great! I feel as though I belong already. The people there are making sure that I fit in and that I can give the best of myself. I’m so looking forward to excelling there! I think I found my niche!

Cookies!

I baked oatmeal cookies this weekend at my parents’ request: “Oatmeal cookies would be nice!!” These cookies I have made for all occasions – especially when family visits I’m glad I get that kind of reaction from my baking!

The visit was so nice. Weather was good for Easter weekend and I had my whole immediate family here. It was lovely. And my cookies and cooking were devoured I’m glad they could come for awhile.

New cake recipe

I baked a cake Wednesday for my very last day of this job. I forgot to take a picture of it But it was really good! I tried a new chocolate cake recipe (fantastic!), filled it with strawberry jam and iced it with chocolate mousse. It didn’t look a pretty as some of my previous cakes (just casually iced), but it tasted way better than some of them! I had lots of compliments on it from the ladies at work I do like baking! More baking this weekend! Yay!

Today was my last day at the retirement home where I’ve worked for the past year and a half. I’m very, very glad to be leaving my current job for the new one due to the difficulties I was having with the higher-ups. I don’t feel as though I was respected at all and I’ve had enough. The hardest part about today was saying goodbye to the residents that I’ve come to know and love. Lots of them gave me hugs and all of them wished me well. I’m sorry to leave them. I’ve watched them progress through the exercises we’ve been doing together and I find that very rewarding.

A few tears, some very nice memories and a fantastic group of people. An exciting part is that I get to do the same sort of thing with a whole new group of seniors!

Feeling Welcome and Valued

I spent all day today at a youth fencing tournament. I was the designated “first-aider” in case of accident. Fortunately there were no injuries. I was also designated photographer so I took pictures all day. It was a great day. The fencing community is so very supportive. I feel so blessed to be a part of it all. I would love for my back to heal quickly so that I can again be competitive. In the meantime, I enjoy coaching the little kids (10 and under) a lot. They’re so much fun! And I’ve mastered “the look” so I have control of my classes!

Since my injury a year ago, I have been in and out of fencing hoping to have a full-on bout and still walk the next day. I have been missing training with another club because I can’t work all day, sit in the car for 2 hours, fence, then another hour in the car and be ok. Today though, I spent some time with the members and coaches of that club and they told me to come back soon to join them. It may not sound like a lot, but I’m so very touched that they have missed me this past year. Fencers are wonderful people, and the ones that aren’t don’t generally continue with the sport

Our Valentine’s Weekend

Will took me out for our Valentine’s dinner at the Charcoal Steak House last night. Dinner was fantastic! As was the company I had a filet mignon which was deelightful! Will had a ribeye and perkedel – which was also excellent! We shared a really chocolatey fondue for dessert! It was a lot of fun!

There was a couple next to us where he proposed before dinner came. It was lovely for the two of them. That got us talking about how well Will planned out his proposal. I love being under the trees for a picnic. He couldn’t have made me happier!

Steak, pizza, booze, candy and chocolates – All in all, it was a great Valentine’s weekend!
